Johor Bahru, 19\u201320 July 2025<\/em> \u2013 The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully hosted two impactful events focused on high-energy physics and the international COMET experiment, aiming to enhance knowledge transfer and solidify Malaysia\u2019s research involvement in this global initiative.<\/p>\n On 19 July, UTM conducted the Knowledge Transfer Workshop 2.0: Introduction to Particle Physics & COMET Experiment<\/strong>, co-organized with the National Centre for Particle Physics (NCPP), Universiti Malaya (UM), and the Department of Applied Physics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Held at UTM Helix C17, the workshop ran from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and attracted 45 participants comprising lecturers, researchers, and postgraduate and undergraduate students both physically and virtually.<\/p>\n The program featured an engaging lecture on particle physics by Prof. Dr. Zamri Zainal Abidin (Director, NCPP, UM) and an in-depth session on the COMET experiment delivered by Dr. Izyan Hazwani Hashim (UTM), Malaysia\u2019s Team Leader for COMET. Participants also explored live demonstrations including the use of GM Tubes and scintillation detectors. In addition, the workshop introduced research and career opportunities with NCPP, offering students and early-career researchers a valuable networking and learning platform.<\/p>\n On 20 July, a Strategic COMET Research Workshop<\/strong> was held, gathering 15 participants from UTM, UM, and UKM for focused discussions on collaborative research related to the COMET particle physics experiment. Technical sessions included:<\/p>\n Introduction to High-Performance Computing for COMET by Dr. Razif (UTM)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Application of the ICEDUST software framework by Mr. Hafiz (UTM)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Data analysis using ROOT software by Dr. Imran (UKM)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Demonstrations of particle detectors using Arduino and Cosmic Pi<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n This two-day program enhanced participants’ understanding of advanced particle detection technologies and analysis tools, while also reinforcing Malaysia\u2019s active role in global physics research.<\/p>\n These initiatives reflect UTM\u2019s commitment to fostering scientific talent and promoting international research collaboration in frontier areas such as high-energy physics\u2014an essential foundation for technological innovation and scientific advancement.<\/p>\n\n
