Skudai, 11 September 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Fluid Mechanics Research Group (FMG)<\/em> in collaboration with the Industrial Scientific Computation Research Group (ISC)<\/em>, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized a two-day Python Copilot Workshop: From Basics to Brilliance<\/strong> on 10\u201311 September 2025<\/strong> at Computer Lab 3, Block C22, UTM Johor Bahru.<\/p>\n The workshop gathered 28 participants<\/strong> from various institutions including UTM, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)<\/strong>. The main objective was to provide participants with foundational skills in Python programming and introduce them to GitHub Copilot<\/strong>, an AI-powered coding assistant designed to accelerate software development and improve coding efficiency.<\/p>\n Led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Tan Tian Swee<\/strong> from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTM \u2014 a renowned expert in artificial intelligence, signal and image processing, and biomedical device development \u2014 the workshop offered a comprehensive learning experience combining theory with hands-on sessions. Dr. Tan was assisted by two facilitators, Mr. Matthias Tiong<\/strong> and Miss Joey Sie<\/strong>, who guided participants throughout the practical exercises.<\/p>\n During the workshop, participants were introduced to Python basics such as syntax, data types, flow control, and problem-solving logic on the first day. The second day focused on advanced topics including functions, data structures, file handling, and debugging techniques, culminating in a mini-project powered by GitHub Copilot<\/strong>. This final project allowed participants to apply their learning by building and refining Python scripts with AI assistance.<\/p>\n The workshop received positive feedback, with participants expressing increased confidence in writing and developing code as well as a deeper understanding of AI integration in programming.
