The program, titled <strong>\u201cFrom Mastery to Mindset: AI-Integrated Innovation-Based Learning with Entrepreneurial and Collaborative Approaches,\u201d<\/strong> integrates artificial intelligence (AI), STEM-based innovation, and real-world mentorship to nurture future-ready innovators among students aged 13 to 15<\/p>\n<p>The program, spearheaded by <strong>Dr. Nor Ain Husein<\/strong> from the <strong>Faculty of Science<\/strong>, with co-researchers <strong>Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Hasrul Akhmal Ngadiman (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering)<\/strong>, <strong>Siti Suraya Jaffer (SMK Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat)<\/strong>, <strong>Dr. Syaza Soraya Sauli (Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology)<\/strong>, and <strong>Muhammad Nur Syiham Abdul Razak (Faculty of Science)<\/strong>, demonstrates how collaboration between universities, schools, and industries can elevate STEM education to new heights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turning Pineapple Waste into Innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The initiative began with a group of students from <strong>SMK Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat<\/strong>, mentored by UTM lecturers, who transformed their STEM theatre project into a series of tangible, sustainable innovations. Their creations include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>FILAMENAS<\/strong> \u2013 a patented <strong>3D printing filament<\/strong> made from pineapple peel and pulp waste.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Biodegradable cup sleeves<\/strong> embedded with plant seeds, designed to sprout after use.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>AI tools such as <em>ChatGPT<\/em> and <em>Canva AI<\/em> were integrated throughout the process \u2014 from ideation and market research to design and presentation. These technologies accelerated learning and encouraged entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindsets, aligning perfectly with the <strong>New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI)<\/strong> framework<\/p>\n<p>Students not only developed functioning prototypes but also showcased their innovations at <strong>Hari Nanas Malaysia<\/strong> and <strong>Jom Heboh 2025<\/strong>, gaining real-world exposure and confidence in STEM entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AI, Collaboration, and Mentorship in Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mentorship program was built around collaborative, hands-on learning rather than traditional classroom instruction. Over three years (2023\u20132025), UTM mentors guided students through product development, competitions, and public exhibitions. Teachers played a pivotal role by supporting the students\u2019 continuous growth and encouraging experimentation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Nor Ain,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis program shows how embedding AI and mentorship into STEM learning can turn classroom mastery into a growth mindset. Students learn not just science \u2014 they learn how to think like innovators and problem solvers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data gathered from surveys, interviews, and academic reports revealed powerful outcomes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>93%<\/strong> of students reported improved understanding of STEM concepts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>95%<\/strong> showed increased interest in STEM-related careers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>91%<\/strong> felt more confident in solving real-world problems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>95%<\/strong> highlighted the importance of positive mentorship in sustaining their motivation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Teachers observed significant transformations in their students\u2019 creativity, communication, and confidence. \u201cStudents who were once quiet now take the lead in pitching innovative ideas,\u201d one teacher noted, emphasizing the deep impact of guided mentorship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Building Future-Ready STEM Entrepreneurs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mentorship framework, rooted in <strong>AI-integrated, innovation-based learning<\/strong>, fosters critical skills such as creativity, collaboration, and resilience \u2014 key elements for future STEM leaders. It also introduces entrepreneurship at an early age, helping students recognize opportunities and design sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n<p>By bridging the gap between schools, universities, and industries, the program offers a <strong>replicable model<\/strong> for future educational ecosystems that promote both <strong>STEM mastery and entrepreneurial mindset<\/strong>. The <strong>Ecopine Revolution<\/strong> project serves as a prime example of how sustainability, technology, and innovation can merge to create real societal impact.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Acknowledgement and Collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This initiative received strong support from the <strong>National STEM Association (NSA)<\/strong> through the <strong>Mini STEM Theatre platform<\/strong>, which inspired the project\u2019s inception.
