Prof. Dr. Alina Wagiran<\/strong> as Program Advisor and <strong data-start=\"909\" data-end=\"940\">Ts. Dr. Syazwani Itri Amran<\/strong> as Program Director, the workshop aimed to equip participants with foundational skills in <strong data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1056\">genomic data analysis<\/strong> using popular open-source platforms such as <strong data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1111\">Galaxy<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1116\" data-end=\"1129\">Cytoscape<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1130\" data-end=\"1133\" \/>A total of <strong data-start=\"1144\" data-end=\"1163\">16 participants<\/strong>, including <strong data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1204\">12 academic staff members<\/strong> and several postgraduate students, took part in the training\u2014reflecting strong interest from the Biosciences community in advancing bioinformatics expertise.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1364\" data-end=\"1406\"><strong data-start=\"1368\" data-end=\"1406\">Bridging Genomics and Data Science<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1408\" data-end=\"1919\">This workshop introduced participants to essential principles and workflows in <strong data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1519\">transcriptomic data analysis<\/strong>, a crucial area of bioinformatics that enables researchers to study gene expression profiles and understand molecular mechanisms underlying diseases, stress responses, and drug interactions.<br data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"1713\" \/>By integrating these computational tools into their research, participants can now analyze large-scale biological data more effectively, accelerating the discovery of new biomarkers and therapeutic targets.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"2306\">The workshop aligns closely with <strong data-start=\"1954\" data-end=\"1981\">UTM\u2019s strategic mission<\/strong> to nurture digitally skilled scientists capable of integrating biology with computational science. Such initiatives also support the <strong data-start=\"2115\" data-end=\"2146\">Faculty of Science\u2019s agenda<\/strong> to build a sustainable research ecosystem that embraces emerging technologies, particularly in the era of genomics, systems biology, and personalized medicine.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2308\" data-end=\"2363\"><strong data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2363\">Enhancing Research Capacity and Academic Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2365\" data-end=\"2842\">Beyond its immediate technical training, the workshop had a broader institutional impact by strengthening <strong data-start=\"2471\" data-end=\"2500\">academic staff capability<\/strong> in genomic data interpretation\u2014an area increasingly demanded in both academic and industrial biotechnology sectors.<br data-start=\"2616\" data-end=\"2619\" \/>Participants reported notable improvement in their understanding and confidence in handling transcriptomic datasets, demonstrating the effectiveness of hands-on and guided learning approaches adopted throughout the program.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"3169\">This initiative also contributes to the <strong data-start=\"2884\" data-end=\"2935\">capacity building of UTM\u2019s Bioscience educators<\/strong>, enabling them to integrate bioinformatics modules into their teaching and research supervision.
