Johor Bahru, 5 October 2024 & 5 August 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), continues to demonstrate its commitment to community engagement through a dynamic Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) that brings science directly into the classroom. Led by Associate Professor Dr. Lee Siew Ling<\/strong>, the initiative titled \u201cKnowledge Transfer Program on STEM in Primary Schools (Science Camp)\u201d<\/em> was carried out in collaboration with SJK(C) Woon Hwa<\/strong>, Kangkar Pulai.<\/p>\n The program, which ran from 15 January 2024 to 31 August 2025<\/strong>, was supported by UTM KTP@Fakulti with a modest funding of RM1,600<\/strong>. Despite the limited budget, the initiative successfully introduced hands-on STEM education to young learners, with the aim of sparking curiosity and building foundational science skills at the primary level.<\/p>\n The flagship event, Science Camp 2024<\/strong>, held on 5 October 2024, saw UTM facilitators guiding students through a series of engaging science experiments. This was followed by the Mini Science Camp 2025<\/strong> on 5 August 2025, where Year 6 student facilitators mentored younger peers in conducting basic scientific investigations. Both sessions included demonstrations, quizzes, and vibrant Q&A interactions, culminating in group photography and a certificate presentation ceremony by the headmaster of SJK(C) Woon Hwa.<\/p>\n A special training course was also conducted for student facilitators on 1 August 2025, equipping them with the necessary communication and presentation skills to support the camp activities.<\/p>\n The program was made possible through the collective effort of a dedicated team of UTM academic and administrative staff, including Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek<\/strong> (Program Advisor), Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. See Hong Heng<\/strong>, Dr. Koh Meng Hock<\/strong>, Dr. Roswanira Abd Wahab<\/strong>, and many others who played pivotal roles in logistics, sponsorship, technical support, and publicity.<\/p>\n This KTP initiative not only empowered primary school students with early exposure to STEM but also fostered leadership, collaboration, and community outreach among UTM undergraduate and postgraduate students involved as facilitators.<\/p>\n The success of the Science Camp reflects UTM\u2019s broader mission to cultivate a scientifically literate society, strengthen university-school partnerships, and make science fun and accessible for all.<\/p>\n
