JOHOR BAHRU, 18 November 2025 \u2013 The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Dr. Nur Izzati bt. Mohd Noh<\/strong> from the Department of Biosciences<\/strong> for securing a UTM Fundamental Research (UTM-FR)<\/strong> grant amounting to RM70,000<\/strong>. This significant achievement celebrates UTM\u2019s commitment to driving innovative research in biotechnology and sustainable materials.<\/p>\n Her project, titled \u201cModified Fatty Acid Degradation Pathway in Thermophilic Gloeocapsa<\/em> sp. for High Yield of Long-Chain Polyhydroxyalkanoates (LCL-PHA) Biosynthesis,\u201d<\/strong> focuses on enhancing the production of environmentally friendly biopolymers using thermophilic microorganisms. By modifying metabolic pathways involved in fatty acid degradation, the research aims to boost the yield of long-chain PHA\u2014biodegradable plastics known for their superior mechanical properties and sustainable potential.<\/p>\n The outcomes of this study are expected to contribute to greener bioprocessing strategies, reduce reliance on petroleum-based plastics, and support Malaysia\u2019s transition toward circular and sustainable bioeconomy initiatives.<\/p>\n
