Johor Bahru, 10 December 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia<\/span><\/span> successfully hosted the UTM Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series No. 122<\/strong>, delivered by Prof. Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee<\/span><\/span><\/strong> from the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The lecture was held at Dewan Senat Ainuddin Wahid<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Titled \u201cStatistics as an Amanah: From Data to Destiny in Building a Nation of Excellence,\u201d<\/strong> the lecture offered profound insights into the ethical responsibilities of statistics in shaping national development. Prof. Hisyam emphasised that data, when guided by integrity, values, and accountability, serves as a powerful instrument for just governance, evidence-based policymaking, and societal well-being\u2014particularly in the era of data science and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

The session was further enriched by an insightful review from YBhg. Dato\u2019 Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, Chief Statistician of Malaysia, who highlighted the critical role of trustworthy statistics in national planning and decision-making. The lecture was expertly chaired by Prof. Dr. Sharidan Shafie<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, fostering a dynamic discussion that drew strong engagement from academics, researchers, and students.<\/p>\n

The active participation and thoughtful exchange of ideas reflected the significance and impact of the lecture, underscoring the Faculty of Science\u2019s commitment to advancing ethical, impactful, and future-ready scientific scholarship.<\/p>\n
