The seminar, titled <strong data-start=\"421\" data-end=\"499\">\u201cOld Materials, New Visions: Sustainable Approaches to Modern Challenges,\u201d<\/strong> brought together academic staff, researchers, and students for an engaging knowledge-sharing session on emerging directions in sustainable materials science.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"919\">The seminar aimed to provide a platform for the UTM community to gain insights from leading global researchers and to encourage interdisciplinary discussions on innovative material solutions that address contemporary technological and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"1561\">The invited speaker, <strong data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"977\">Prof. Antonio Helio Castro Neto<\/strong>, currently serves as the <strong data-start=\"1003\" data-end=\"1063\">Director of the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1144\">Co-Director of the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (IFIM)<\/strong> at the <strong data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1194\">National University of Singapore (NUS)<\/strong>. He is also a <strong data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1326\">Distinguished Professor in both the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Physics<\/strong> at NUS. Prof. Castro Neto is internationally recognised among the <strong data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1429\">top 1% of researchers in physics<\/strong>, with a <strong data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1463\">Scopus H-index of 118<\/strong>, reflecting his significant contributions to materials physics and advanced functional materials.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"2001\">During the seminar, Prof. Castro Neto discussed how traditional materials can be reimagined through <strong data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1704\">sustainable and innovative approaches<\/strong> to tackle modern global challenges. His presentation highlighted the importance of <strong data-start=\"1788\" data-end=\"1889\">advanced functional materials, interdisciplinary research, and sustainable development strategies<\/strong> in addressing issues such as energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and next-generation technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2399\">The session attracted strong participation from <strong data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2137\">academic staff, postgraduate students, and researchers across multiple disciplines<\/strong>, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable materials research within the Faculty of Science. The interactive discussion that followed allowed participants to explore new perspectives and potential research collaborations in emerging materials technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2401\" data-end=\"2789\">This initiative aligns with <strong data-start=\"2429\" data-end=\"2467\">UTM\u2019s ASCEND 2030 strategic agenda<\/strong>, which emphasises knowledge sharing, global collaboration, and engagement with leading international researchers.
