JOHOR BAHRU, 19 August 2026<\/strong> \u2013 The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), continued its Science Seminar Series 2026<\/strong> with an insightful session entitled \u201cMathematical Modeling and AI for Materials Design and Chemical Innovation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n The seminar featured Dr. Pierluigi Cesana<\/strong> from the Institute of Mathematics for Industry, Kyushu University, Japan<\/strong>, who shared perspectives on how mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence can contribute to the development of advanced materials and support innovation in chemical sciences.<\/p>\n Held at HELIxS, C17, Faculty of Science, UTM<\/strong>, the seminar provided participants with exposure to the growing integration of mathematics, computational approaches and artificial intelligence in modern scientific research.<\/p>\n During the session, Dr. Cesana highlighted the potential of mathematical models to describe and predict material behaviour, while AI-based approaches can assist researchers in analysing complex datasets, identifying meaningful patterns and accelerating the design of new materials.<\/p>\n The seminar also demonstrated the increasing importance of interdisciplinary research, where expertise in mathematics, materials science, chemistry and artificial intelligence can be brought together to address complex scientific and technological challenges.<\/p>\n The programme offered an opportunity for academic staff, researchers and students to broaden their understanding of emerging computational approaches and to explore their relevance to future research in materials development and chemical innovation.<\/p>\n Through the Science Seminar Series<\/strong>, the Faculty of Science continues to provide a platform for knowledge exchange with researchers from leading international institutions, while promoting research excellence, global engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.<\/p>\n The programme also
