Dr. Nurul Nabila Rosman<\/span><\/strong><span> from the <\/span><strong><span>Department of Chemistry<\/span><\/strong><span> for successfully securing the <\/span><strong><span>ASCEND Research Prominence Grant<\/span><\/strong><span>, with research funding of <\/span><strong><span>RM149,166<\/span><\/strong><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The two-year project, running from <\/span><strong><span>18 September 2026 to 17 September 2028<\/span><\/strong><span>, focuses on developing advanced photoelectrode materials to improve <\/span><strong><span>solar-driven water splitting<\/span><\/strong><span>, a promising approach for producing clean hydrogen energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Officially titled <\/span><strong><span>\u201cInterfacial Modulation of Direct Z-Scheme Bi\u2085O\u2087I\/Fe\u2082WO\u2086 Heterojunction Photoanodes for Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting,\u201d<\/span><\/strong><span> the project investigates how the interface between two semiconductor materials can be engineered to improve their ability to capture light and drive water-splitting reactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In simpler terms, the research aims to develop <\/span><strong><span>more efficient light-responsive materials that use solar energy to split water and support clean hydrogen production<\/span><\/strong><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hydrogen produced using renewable energy has significant potential as a cleaner energy carrier. Improving the efficiency of photoelectrochemical water splitting could therefore contribute to future technologies for <\/span><strong><span>green hydrogen, renewable energy and low-carbon energy systems<\/span><\/strong><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The project highlights the important role of materials and chemistry research in addressing global energy and sustainability challenges. It also supports the aspirations of <\/span><strong><span>UTM ASCEND 2030<\/span><\/strong><span> by strengthening high-impact research with potential environmental and societal benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Faculty of Science congratulates ChM.
