This approach integrates the beneficial properties of curcumin, silver-based nanomaterials, and hydrogel technology to explore new strategies for managing burn injuries.

Curcumin, a natural compound derived from turmeric, has been widely investigated for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Meanwhile, silver-based nanomaterials are recognised for their antimicrobial potential, while CMC-based hydrogels can provide a hydrated environment suitable for wound care applications. Combining these materials offers a promising platform for investigating multifunctional wound dressings.

A key aspect of the project involves understanding how near-infrared radiation influences the biological responses of the nanocomposite hydrogel, particularly in regulating inflammation and supporting tissue regeneration. By examining the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms, the research aims to generate fundamental knowledge that could contribute to the development of more effective wound management technologies.

Burn injuries remain a significant healthcare challenge due to the risk of infection, prolonged inflammation, and delayed tissue regeneration. Advanced wound dressings incorporating nanomaterials and bioactive compounds represent a promising research direction for addressing these challenges.

Through the integration of nanobiotechnology, biomaterials science, and regenerative medicine, this project highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research in developing innovative healthcare solutions. Its findings could provide a scientific foundation for future smart wound dressing technologies capable of responding to external stimulation.

The successful acquisition of this competitive research grant reflects Dr. Wan Fatin Amira’s commitment to advancing innovative biosciences research with potential applications in biomedical technology. This achievement further strengthens the Faculty of Science’s research excellence and aligns with UTM ASCEND 2030, particularly in promoting impactful scientific discoveries, healthcare innovation, and interdisciplinary research.

The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Wan Fatin Amira Wan Mohd Zawawi on this achievement and wishes her continued success in advancing nanotechnology-based research that could contribute to improved burn wound management and regenerative healthcare technologies.

#UTM #FacultyOfScience #UTMFSResearch #UTMASCEND2030 #ResearchExcellence #GETGrant #Nanobiotechnology #WoundHealing #BurnTreatment #SilverNanoparticles #Hydrogel #BiomedicalInnovation #RegenerativeMedicine

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.27.7″ _module_preset=”default” type=”1_2″ theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_image src=”http://science.utm.my/utmfsresearch/wp-content/uploads/sites/642/2026/10/ChatGPT-Image-Oct-14-2026-07_06_18-PM.jpg” _builder_version=”4.27.7″ _module_preset=”default” theme_builder_area=”post_content” title_text=”ChatGPT Image Oct 14, 2026, 07_06_18 PM” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

JOHOR BAHRU – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Dr. Wan Fatin Amira Wan Mohd Zawawi from the Department of Biosciences on successfully securing a research grant worth RM123,181 under the Exploratory and Transformative Research Grant (GET), Phase 1, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.
