ISM International Statistical Conference. ISM-V

Institute of Statistics Malaysia (ISMy) is a leading statistical society in Malaysia with a long history of  tradition since its establishment in 1984.

ISMy mission is to promote proper practice, propagation, and dissemination of statistical knowledge for the benefit of society. Our members are diverse , associated with academic institutions,  Department of Statistics Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, various government agencies and industries.

ISMy flagship event is the biennial ISM International Statistical Conference, where participants from Malaysia and across the globe meet to exchange and explore ideas and to network. The first ISM, ISM-I was conducted in 2012 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Other ISMy conferences were hosted previously by Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Malaya and Sunway University for the second, third and fourth series respectively. This year, the fifth installment of the statistical conference makes its way once more to Johor Bahru, where Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) play host to this important event with the theme,

Statistics in the Spotlight: Navigating the New Norm

The 5th ISM International Statistical Conference (ISM-V) is a three-day event starting from 17th August 2021. This date coincidentally marks ISMy’s 37th birthday celebration!

This year, ISM-V is collocating with another conference, thus we offer more information packed content to participants including three plenary sessions by speakers from University of Bologna, Auckland University of Technology, Microsoft and Serba Dinamik. Also two forum sessions on Post-Pandemic Lessons for Industries and Post-Pandemic Upskilling, with panelists including speakers from Scomi Transit Project, Smart City & Urban Tech, Naluri Hidup, Open Learning Limited, TalentCorp, Malaysia Bureau Labour Statistics and Cisco.

SCOPE

ISM-V organisers cordially invite  academicians and practitioners to take part in the first virtual conference of Institute of Statistics Malaysia (ISMy), focusing on, but not limited to:

Statistical theory, distribution theory, probability models, stochastic process, statistical inference, prediction analysis, survival analysis, biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, reliability theory, quality control, sampling, statistical computing, Bayesian analysis, time series, econometrics, demography, robust methods, Monte-Carlo methods, statistical education, financial mathematics, forecasting, actuarial science, environmental statistics, economic statistics, official statistics, multivariate analysis, spatial analysis, directional data analysis,  computer science and related topics.

Presentations and paper submissions that address the ISM-V’s scopes are welcome!

OBJECTIVE

  • To assemble established and new researchers for the dissemination of current research on various statistical topics from all over the world.
  • To facilitate constructive statistical discussions between the researchers and the practitioners of common interest in a stimulating environment.
  • To promote and develop strong professional network between the statistical community in Malaysia and globally.
  • To promote and foster statistical literacy and awareness among individuals and decision makers in facing new norm challenges related to data.
