CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT

FS Lab Management

Chemical management at the Faculty of Science, involves the proper handling, storage, usage, and disposal of chemicals to ensure safety, compliance with regulations, and environmental sustainability. It follows Malaysian safety regulations, such as Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994 and Environmental Quality Act 1974.

Chemical Management for Teaching & Learning

Planning and Procurement of Chemical Substances

a) Assist the Laboratory Manager in planning the needs and purchase of chemical substances at the PTJ.

b) Prepare cost estimates, lists of common and special chemicals, and procurement support documentation (EUD Form).

c) Manage supplier records and procurement of chemicals according to university procedures

Receipt and Verification of Chemical Substances

a) Receive chemical substances from the CMU or approved suppliers.

b) Verify that the chemicals received are accurate as approved in terms of type, quantity, and specification.

c) Review and verify receipt documents such as Delivery Orders (DO), invoices, and claim forms.

Storage and Safety Management

a) Manage the storage of chemical substances in designated stores according to safety requirements.

b) Ensure labeling, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and store layouts are organized and accessible.

c) Segregate expired, damaged, or unused chemicals to designated areas.

Issuance and Usage Control

a) Manage applications and the issuance of chemicals to authorized users.

b) Maintain issuance records and ensure distribution is conducted consistently and complies with relevant regulations.

Inventory, Stock, and Compliance

a) Maintain and update the inventory and register of chemical substances for the PTJ.

b) Monitor stock levels to prevent surplus, shortages, or redundant purchases.

c) Assist in ensuring compliance with regulations, guidelines, and instructions related to chemical management.

Coordination and Information Delivery

Support the delivery of information, training, and instructions regarding chemical management to PTJ members.

Chemical Management for Research

Review and Verification of Chemicals for Research Purpose

a) Review purchase application documents for research chemicals, including controlled substances, to ensure validity and proper approval.

b) Verify that received chemicals align with the applications approved by the owner.

c) Ensure that the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is received and accessible to chemical users.

Chemical Management Regulatory Management

Assist in ensuring compliance with regulations and guidelines related to research chemical management, covering procurement, storage, usage, and disposal at the department level.
