Message from Director

Welcome to the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science UTM. For your information, Biosciences Department have 36 academic staffs with a broad range of expertise in Biosciences.  We also have 12 laboratory staffs (science officer, assistant science officer and assistant engineer) to help on laboratory preparation and technical assistance. The department offers two undergraduate programme which are BSc. (Biology), B.Sc. (Industrial Biology) as well as postgraduate program (M.Sc Specialization in Biotechnology, Master of Science (Bioscience) and Doctoral of Philosophy (Bioscience). The academic members in our department are actively involved in different research areas such as cancer and infectious diseases, environmental biotechnology, synthetic biology, microbial technology, industrial biotechnology, plant and agriculture biotechnology and biopharmaceutical technology.  We have experts in protein and structural biology, biochemistry, environmental microbiology, animal and plant biotechnology and other fundamental biology. We are involved in a diverse research area such as protein and genetic engineering technology, enzyme technology, bioprocess engineering, plant and animal cell/tissue culture technology, biosensor technology, bioinformatics and also DNA barcoding technology.  These technologies are applied in agriculture, health care, forensics, industrial processing and environmental protection and management in many useful ways. With excellent facilities for carrying out both teaching and research activities, we offer high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and a supportive environment for our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
