On Sunday, June 23, 2024, the Department of Biosciences at UTM hosted the highly anticipated Alumni Insight Forum 2024: Navigating Success Together, attended by 87 final-year undergraduate students. The event featured insightful talks by distinguished alumni now working in multinational corporations (MNCs): Yap Yong Zi, a Research Officer at Bioprocessing Technology Institute, A*STAR, Singapore, and Nur Sri Dewi binti Md Hisham, a Data Engineer at ExxonMobil. The forum served as a platform for alumni to share their experiences and insights into the current demands of the workforce, providing students with a clearer understanding of the skills needed to succeed post-graduation. In addition to discussing academic improvements, alumni served as role models and mentors, offering guidance on career prospects within their specialized fields. This forum not only fostered stronger connections between students and alumni but also facilitated opportunities for students to network with industry representatives, thereby enhancing their career readiness and professional development. Following the forum, a special ceremony was held to officially launch the Alumni Wall of Fame. The wall, located between the Al-Razi Seminar Room and Al-Dinawari Auditoriums in the Biosciences Building (T02), was unveiled by two distinguished alumni: Dr. Teo Chee Loong and Mr. Mohd Afiq bin Khir Anuar. This new initiative honors the achievements of Biosciences alumni across academia, government, private sectors, and entrepreneurship. The Alumni Wall of Fame will be updated annually, with nine new alumni featured each year, serving as role models for current students. By showcasing their achievements, this initiative not only acknowledges the contributions of alumni but also encourages ongoing collaboration between alumni and the department. The wall aims to inspire students to connect with these accomplished individuals for guidance, mentorship, and career opportunities. Through this initiative, the Department of Biosciences seeks to strengthen alumni identity and leadership while motivating future graduates by providing a visible source of inspiration and practical support as they navigate their career paths.
