Physics optics panel offers a wide range of expertise in fundamental and applied optics physics to provide high-quality in teaching, research projects supervision as well as services to the community and industry. The taught courses offered comprise of classical, modern and quantum optics while applied optics are intended to cover the field of optoelectronics, photonics, laser, fibre, optical material and properties, non-linear optics, plasma technology, optical spectroscopy, as well as an optical system. In research projects supervision, our niche area covers on laser applications, fibre lasers, optical fibre sensors, plasma technology and optical diagnostic techniques. The current research project focuses on as follows:
- Laser application: Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), nanoparticles synthesis using laser ablation and Z-scan technique for non-linear optics analysis.
- Fibre lasers: The high-performance pulse fibre laser incorporated with fabricated saturable absorber is generated in different gain mediums ranging from near to mid-infrared region.
- Optical fibre sensors: Development of various optical fibre sensors for chemicals & biosensors measurand and fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) sensors for temperature & strain detection.
- Plasma technology: Development of dielectric barrier non-thermal plasma reactor for various applications & using complementary optical techniques for plasma diagnostic and plasma focus study.
