Physics is the most fundamental natural science, encompassing physical systems ranging in size from nuclei to atoms to the entire universe. It is a very broad field with numerous sub-fields. Understanding the forces and laws that govern matter-energy interactions is an important aspect of the discipline. Instrumentation physics, a major option within physics, is designed to prepare a bachelor’s degree holder for work in government and industrial laboratories where the ability to use and modify complex electronic and mechanical equipment is highly valued. As a physicist, applying this knowledge to other sciences and technology opens up a world of possibilities. The perspective of a physicist on making measurements and interpreting experimental data differs significantly from that of engineers, who are focused on construction and mathematicians, who are focused on analysis. In our instrumentation panel, we emphasize on both knowledge and laboratory experiences, so that students are exposed to as many different knowledge in physics, mathematics and engineering.
