Johor Bahru, November 2025 — The Cancer Cell Culture Techniques Workshop: Functional Assessment by Viability & Stress Analyses (for Beginners), jointly organized by the Centre for Advanced Industrial & Innovation Development (CAID), Department of Biosciences, and Biotek Abadi Sdn. Bhd., concluded with resounding success, equipping participants with essential skills in cancer cell culture and functional assays.
Held on 26–27 November 2025 at the Genetic Engineering Laboratory, Building T02, Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM, the workshop attracted strong participation and provided a comprehensive introduction to cell culture techniques.
Day 1 focused on core laboratory skills, including aseptic technique, media preparation, cell revival, harvesting, counting, seeding, freezing, and an overview of current cancer assay applications. Expert facilitators — Dr. Nurzila Ab Latif, Dr. Praseetha Prabhakaran, Dr. Saleha Shahar, and Dr. Wan Fatin Amira — delivered informative and practical sessions that built participants’ confidence in handling cell cultures.
Day 2 featured engaging hands-on demonstrations, including live CCK-8 and ROS assays, practical cell plating exercises, and guided data analysis led by Dr. Nur Syahirah Che Razali from Biotek Abadi Sdn. Bhd. These sessions provided participants with direct exposure to functional assessment techniques in cancer research.
The workshop was designed especially for beginners, offering a rare opportunity to gain practical lab experience, enhance research skills, and take the first step toward mastering functional cell assessment. Organizers emphasized that seats were limited to ensure personalized guidance and effective learning.
The organizer expressed appreciation to all speakers, participants, and partners for making the initiative impactful, noting that such training programs are vital in nurturing the next generation of researchers and strengthening Malaysia’s biomedical innovation ecosystem.
