The Department of Biosciences is proud to share the success of an industrial visit to the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM), conducted under the courses MSCB1223 (Environmental Bioengineering) and MSCB1503 (Agricultural Practices). This meaningful visit aimed to expose students to real-world working environments and deepen their understanding of how classroom knowledge is applied in the field.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn directly from industry experts about sustainable agricultural practices, waste management, and environmental conservation within the pineapple industry. The session included briefings, lively discussions, field visits, and even a live demonstration of sustainable pineapple waste management—practicing a zero-waste concept where all waste materials are repurposed into useful products.

A total of seven Semester 2 students from the Master of Biosciences program, accompanied by two dedicated lecturers, Ts. Dr. Leong Hong Yeng and Dr. Fazilah Binti Abd Manan, actively participated in this insightful experience. Not to be forgotten, Dr. Adibah Yahya, who also teaches MSCB1223, was actively involved in supporting this RLT initiative through her academic contributions, although she did not join the visit.

Congratulations to all three lecturers for successfully organizing this visit, and a big well done to our students for your enthusiastic participation. We are incredibly proud of your engagement and curiosity!

This visit not only met the objectives of exposing students to industry practices but also fulfilled the Research-Led Teaching component as outlined in the Course Information (CI) for both MSCB1223 and MSCB1503.

Keep up the great work, everyone! We look forward to more enriching and impactful learning experiences like this.
