DENPASAR, BALI , 15 September 2025– Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Udayana University (UNUD) have solidified their long-standing collaboration with the formal handover of a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The event, which took place from September 15 at UNUD’s Faculty of Agricultural Technology, marks a new chapter in a partnership that began in 2016.
Prof. Fahrul Zaman Huyop of UTM’s Faculty of Science, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roswanira Ab Wahab, presented the MoU to Prof. Dr. Ir. I Made Anom Sutrisna Wijaya, Dean of UNUD’s Faculty of Agricultural Technology. In his welcoming speech, Dean Anom Sutrisna Wijaya stressed the importance of expanding the partnership beyond research. He called for the development of joint academic programs, staff and student exchanges, expertise sharing, and collaborative postgraduate supervision.
The MoU builds on a foundation of active collaboration since 2017. Several joint initiatives currently on-going including:
- CONNECT 2025: An international research networking program where faculty from both universities are active members.
- Joint Engineering Research: Active projects involve researchers from UTM’s Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering and UNUD’s Faculty of Agricultural Technology.
- Community Programs: UTM’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has partnered with UNUD on initiatives like IE Xplore Bali 2025 and an International Community Service project.
During his visit, Prof. Fahrul also delivered an invited lecture titled “Integrated Approaches in Nutrigenomics of Southeast Asian Honey for Functional Food Development” to over 100 students and academics. The lecture was part of the Udayana University Senior Fellowship (UNISERF) program, which previously funded Prof. Fahrul’s research attachment at UNUD.
The successful visit concluded with research consultations and strategic planning, setting a clear path for expanding joint academic, research, and mobility programs between the two universities.
