Event: Karnival Kimia Johor (K2M)
Theme: Cell & Animal
Venue: T02, Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM
Co-organizer: Malaysian Institute of Chemistry
Date: 27th September 2025
The Department of Biosciences participated as an exhibitor at Karnival Kimia Johor, held on 27th September 2025, where the department engaged visitors through a series of interactive science activities designed to promote interest in STEM.
Representing the department were scientists and postgraduate students, including Ts Dr Pauliena Mohd Bohari, Dr Praseetha Prabhakaran, Dr Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Lazaldin, and Ts Dr Nor Zalina Othman. Together, the team introduced visitors to fundamental concepts in biosciences through hands-on demonstrations based on the theme “Cell & Animal.”
At the exhibition booth, visitors had the opportunity to observe the anatomy of animal cells under a microscope, offering a closer look at the microscopic structures that make up living organisms. The team also presented insights into the science behind roselle, highlighting its potential applications in wound healing and its significance in biomedical research.
The interactive activities attracted visitors of various age groups, providing a platform for the public to learn about scientific research in an engaging and accessible way. Through these demonstrations, the Department of Biosciences aimed to spark curiosity and encourage greater appreciation for science and its role in everyday life.
The participation in Karnival Kimia Johor reflects the department’s continued commitment to community engagement and STEM education, in line with the aspiration of our Dean, Associate Professor Dr Syafinaz Shahir. By bringing scientific knowledge closer to the public, the initiative helps inspire future generations to explore careers and interests in the field of science.
The Department of Biosciences extends its appreciation to everyone who visited the booth and contributed to making the event a memorable and meaningful experience.
