Bridging Classroom Knowledge with Industry Experience at FGV Maokil Palm Oil Mill
On 18 June 2026, undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM participated in an academic and industrial visit to FGV Maokil Palm Oil Mill, Labis, Johor, as part of the department’s commitment to Work-Based Learning (WBL) and Research-Led Teaching (RLT).
The visit involved students from the following courses:
- SSCT 3203 – Industrial Waste Management
- SSCT 3503 – Biorefinery Technology
- MSCB 1223 – Environmental Bioengineering
- MSCB 1523 – Industrial Technology and Bioreactor Design
Through this visit, students gained first-hand exposure to real industrial operations, including palm oil processing, waste and effluent management (POME), sustainability practices, process engineering, and environmental compliance. The experience provided valuable opportunities to connect theoretical concepts learned in the classroom with real-world industrial applications.
