Dr. Mohd Bakri Bakar, holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He was a Visiting Researcher at IBM Almaden Research Center USA under auspices of NanoMalaysia program. His academic experiences encompasses many initiatives at various levels. His contributions have been acknowledged as he was honored with the University Excellent Service Award. Currently, he has been appointed as the Special Officer (Corporate Communication) at the Faculty of Science UTM and as an Assistant Head of the Chemistry Department.
Dr Bakri has organized numerous science outreach programs for communities and school students. He also shared his thoughts on science by writing in a newspaper. He is a chemistry taskforce member for National Science Challenges (NSC) and has further been appointed as the Chief Judge for Johor NSC.
His research expertise covers organic synthetic chemistry, organic conjugated system, porphyrin chemistry and their applications towards biological system such as for antimicrobial coating and photophysical system for molecular electronic devices. He is the recipient of national research grant awards by Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education. Dr. Bakri has published his research findings in various high-impact journals, for example Journal of Organic Chemistry, European Journal of Organic Chemistry, Tetrahedron and Carbohydrate Polymers.
Dr. Bakri is a member of Malaysia Institute of Chemistry (IKM) and a committee member for IKM Southern Region. He is also an affiliate member for the Young Scientist Network- Malaysia Academy of Science (YSN-ASM). At international level, Dr. Bakri is an American Chemical Society (ACS) member and as an ACS Chemistry Ambassador. He is a founding member of ACS Malaysia Chapter and currently hold the ACS Malaysia Chair post.
