Professor ChM. Dr. Zaiton Abdul Majid obtained her PhD. in Civil Engineering (Environmental) from Universiti Malaya. She was previously the Deputy Dean (Research) and is currently the Dean, Faculty of Science, UTM. She was one of the four recipients, and the first from Asia, of the Lise Meitner Guest Professorship Award, Lund University, Sweden in 2014. Her research is multidisciplinary in nature, and focuses on 2 main areas of waste utilization: i) development of sorbents from waste, focusing on separation-sorption process in water treatment and ii) utilization of waste as cement additives, focusing on their effect on cement hydration reactions. She is also actively involved in STEM outreach programs for the community.
