Reseacher Profile Mohd Shahir Shamsir

Mohd Shahir Shamsir obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Exeter, UK, and has published more than 140 research papers in various journals and conferences. He is also the founder of the Bioinformatics Research Group (BIRG) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he led several projects on molecular dynamics, prion, and geographic information systems. He is passionate about promoting science education and awareness among the public, especially the young generation. He is also an avid traveller and photographer who enjoys exploring new places and cultures. He has been a keynote speaker, a plenary speaker, a session chair, a committee member, or an advisor for several international and national conferences, such as the International Conference on Biomedical Engineering (ICBME) and the International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB). He has also conducted several training sessions and workshops on bioinformatics, molecular dynamics, and GIS for students, researchers, and industry partners. He is a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and a reviewer for several journals and conferences. He is also a registered technology professional who oversees the intellectual property rights and commercialization of research products from UTM during his tenure as ICC Director.
